EJ Hwang is a pianist, composer, and educator, pursues original expression in every note she plays. With harmonic curiosity and analytical awareness, she progresses her own music playing and composing that formally started in 2006.
A native of Seoul, South Korea, EJ began a classical music training when she was 4.
Since the arrival to US in 2009, EJ has been involved in numerous projects and recordings with performers such as Larry Harlow and the legendary jazz vocalist Sheila Jordan.
She has performed with her group has given many performances, also as a sideman in various venues in Boston, Chicago and Korea.
EJ's debut album as a leader, "The Ensemble" was released in Korea, 2015. After 3 years of her musical activities in Korea, she left Seoul behind to Boston for more academic achievements. Her great mentors as Danilo Perez, Terri Lyne Carrington, Ben street, John Patitucci, and Geroge Garzone were a huge inspiration not only to her music, but also philosophy of social conceptions.
